FEMA Is Preparing For A Solar Storm That Would Take Out The Grid

FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Administration) is planning for a massive solar storm that would be so strong, it would take down the power grid. Noting that the rare, yet “high-consequence” scenario has “the potential for catastrophic impact on our nation and FEMA’s ability to respond.”

According to unpublished FEMA documents obtained by Government Attic, a FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) database and non-profit organization, the Department of Homeland Security agency once mapped out a disaster plan for the occurrence of another geomagnetic “super storm” like the one the occurred in 1859.

Back then, the sun flung a giant plume of magnetized plasma out into space. The coronal mass ejection (CME), the sibling of a massive solar flare, traveled the 93 million miles between the Sun and Earth in only 17.6 hours. Today, it’s known as the Carrington Event and is remembered by…

Clinton Foundation Caught With $1M in Undocumented Funds From Qatar

Reclaim Our Republic

June 23, 2017 by Andrew West

From the moment Hillary Clinton announced her candidacy for President years ago, her handlers must have understood what a lost cause it would be.

Clinton, who is an absolutely filthy politician known for corruption over anything else, was about to be under the microscope in ways that only a presidential candidate could be.  Every nook and cranny of the skeletons in her closet would be picked apart, bone by bone, and reassembled nightly on the network news.  There were the obvious topics to discuss:  Benghazi, her vote on the Iraq war, and a myriad of other scandals would be revisited, tenfold, as she prepared to face Donald Trump in the general election.

In an incredible twist of fate, the world was able to dig even deeper than ever before into the grimy world of Clintonian politics thanks to a treasure trove of Hillary campaign…

Brazil’s Reasons

by Jeffrey P. Snider

Brazil is another one of those topics which doesn’t seem to merit much scrutiny apart from morbid curiosity. Like swap spreads or Japanese bank currency redistribution tendencies, it is sometimes hard to see the connection for US-based or just generically DM investors. Unless you set out to buy an emerging market ETF heavily weighted in the direction of South America, Brazil’s problems can seem a world away.

It starts with Brazil’s history, most of which has found its economy in one kind of disarray or another. Such makes it very easy to just dismiss their current struggles as reversion to the mean, Brazil getting back to being Brazil. The relevance isn’t immediately apparent.

As late as 1990, for example, the biggest country in South America was gripped by runaway inflation. In March 1990, Brazil’s CPI registered 82.39% inflation – in…

Sears Canada Melts Down

Source: Wolf Streetby Wolf Richter

Goes Bankrupt. Lays Off 2,900 People. Shareholders rue the day.

Sears Canada and its subsidiaries, which operate 95 department stores, 29 Sears Home stores, 71 Hometown stores, 16 Outlet stores, 69 Sears Travel offices, and 32 Corbeil appliance stores, and thus lease a lot of mall space, filed for bankruptcy protection today. It will also close a slew of stores and fire 2,900 people.

The company was partially spun off from similarly struggling Sears Holdings in the US in 2012, which still holds a 12% stake, and whose CEO Eddie Lampert owns a 45% stake in part via his hedge fund, ESL Investments.

In the announcement, Sears Canada said that it has applied to the Ontario Superior Court of Justice for protection under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (“CCAA”), in order to restructure its debts. It doesn’t plan to liquidate.

VIDEO Why did the DNC refuse to let the FBI look at its servers?

Why did the DNC refuse to let the FBI look at its servers?

June 22, 2017  By Matthew VadumBombThrowers

The fact that last year the Democratic National Committee refused to allow the FBI to examine its servers after Democrats claimed Russia hacked into them during the election cycle has always bugged me.

It doesn’t seem like something the DNC would do if it really wanted justice to be done. Could this refusal to let the world’s most respected law enforcement agency examine its servers be part of some kind of cover-up? And what about the scandal surrounding Democrats hiring the Awan brothers? As the Daily Caller reported, “Hina Alvi, her husband Imran Awan, and his brothers Abid and Jamal were highly paid shared IT administrators…

Mueller has the ability to use criminal charges against recalcitrant witnesses

The Comey/Mueller Tag Team

June 22, 2017 By BombThrowers — Eli Lake

In a prior column, I pointed out how strange it was that Robert Mueller, the former FBI director, was leading the investigation of the Trump administration for its alleged collusion with Russia to hack and steal the 2016 election from Hillary Clinton. Mueller was appointed to lead the investigation even though one of the main witnesses in this investigation happen to be his protégé, James Comey, who was also Mueller’s successor at the FBI. Comey — it should be obvious — has a vested interest in embarrassing or harming Donald Trump, the man who fired him.

I didn’t think things could get weirder, or more unsavory, but somehow, they have. James Comey was called to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee on this very subject.
